danielle artists statement

my current work is very inspired by trauma and abnormal psychology. my theme for this year is 'decorative trauma', i want to juxtapose traumatic life events (of my own and those that have been told to me by others) with ornate decoration and painting. i want to mix classical techniques of painting (under painting, glazing) with more contemporary ones (ala prima, drips, application with palette knife). for this semester i plan to work with a chiaroscuro palette, which i feel my previous works have already had a strong predilection towards (vibrant reds and yellows set in dark browns, blacks, and burgundy). i also plan to explore pastels and other mediums much more.
