Ayla Bruckmann

My body of work is an attempt to combined two subjects I am interested in, portraits and abuse. Painting interesting facial expression and using the physicality of paint to show emotion is something I am very interested in. As I continue to explore the idea of abuse in my works, violence and fear are slowly being integrated into many of my portraits. By using aggressive images and by using forceful brush strokes while painting a face or figure, the two ideas come together. Recently I have been experimenting by painting on photographs and using ink to mutilate them, as well as researching what part I want the viewer to play when looking at my works.
