By using combinations of imagery along with Iconic stills, I attempt to accentuate and desecrate the delicate nature of both male and female ways of being. By layering image, edge, mark, and color I wish to convey personal and public concepts of love and the struggles within. Playing with shapes and voids, my playing field is abstract yet pictorial. Playing with the notion of Kitsch, I wish to exaggerate the decorative nature of the subject matter without loosing quality of color and underlying conceptual relationships. The self-indulgent nature of the decadent and decorative influences the work. By staying consciously unconscious of the loaded subject matter, the pieces become strictly about what they say and not my nostalgic relationship with the material. Without nostalgia my work wouldn't exist because my work itself inspires nostalgia.
