Rings of saturn response- Victoria

As I read this chapter and wait for the trolley, he sits next to me, he smells of decaying rodents and toxic bodily fluids. I giggle nervously at first because the smell is so strong that it seems that something solid flew into my noise and rested there. He asked the woman on the other side of him for a nickel, I assume that he will ask me afterwards. He took her left over chinese food, tasted it and decided it was not good enough and then he laid it on the ground. Then he asked me for a nickel and I denied having one but i did have left over fruit that he just took from beside me but he could not open my knot so i offered to open it for him and it was hard so i had to tear it open. He didn’t take the banana, no one ever eats the banana, I didn’t want the banana why should I be shocked that he didn’t want the banana. They should really consider not giving the banana. Anyway I have left over pineapple, mango, and grapes, they were nice and sweet but I couldn’t eat it all from earlier and I didn’t want to carry it anymore or waste it so I was happy he liked it and he ate it with his hands, juices everywhere and i noticed the hospital band on his wrist. He puts the foil bowl on the ground I for some reason I asked if he was going to throw it in the trash since it was write next to him. He asked me for a nickel for the second time, I said “I gave you the fruit,” and he disregarded, he starts asking everyone who walks by for a nickel. I look around, I am the only person sitting next to him and I can feel everyone’s eyes wondering about him, wondering about me. I don’t feel the need to move, I’ve already grown accustomed to the smell, he hasn’t harassed me, he means no harm, but I can’t focus on my reading so I’m thinking about him. And then he does it, the only thing I wonder about before I give anything to a homeless person, what will he use it for. He pulls out a bottle, a clear spirit, and he takes a swig. I’m not judging, my motto is “whatever gets you by.” Another guy asked me for some water maybe fifteen minutes before this guy, I gave him my water bottle after considering it. It’s more because I don’t think he needed it. He was asking out of habit and i actually wanted to keep the bottle. Now I head home with only the bad I left home with.
